I’m sure all of you can relate to that vacation bloat. After over a week of eating whatever the f* ck I wanted, I decided I should go on a cleanse.

I’d never cleansed before. Anyone who knows me will tell youI’m the hangry friend.Not feeing for a significant duration of time hadnever been an option; when I don’t eat, I feel horrendous and construct everyone around me miserable.

ButI figured , I’m home forChristmas break. I have literally no responsibilities this week. What’s the worst quantity of damage I could do to the world with a two-day cleanse ?

Why tea? I heard somewhere that drinking three pots of tea a day induces you super healthy and thin. I don’t remember where I heard this, but I figured that if it were true, I would become super healthy after expending 48 hours straight-up drinking tea.

F* ck Teatox and all that bullsh* t. Real-ass tea bags wouldbe more cleansing, right?

Thus began my~ journey ~. Come with me, children, down a strange, dark and bizarre path into cleansing oblivion.

I had an idea in my head to get this tea that mycoworkerZarais alwaysdrinking: Yogi Detox. It has a lot of tasty appearing stuff in it, like ginger. Mama likes her some ginger.

So I went to CVS, dragging my sister’s apprehensive girlfriend for moral subsistence, but the Yogi Tea was nowhere to be found. I blame the Midwest and its delay on shipmentsforanything trendy.

Instead, the only tea this rustic establishment had to offer was the vile Lipton( CVS: destroying dreams since 1963 ). And so, in at the least my second terrible the actions of the day, I received myself in the laxatives aisle.

EmergenC somehow containseight grams of carbs. But I required the vitamin C, so I bit the bullet.

I tookmy daily vitamins with my EmergenC. I took a vitamin for my hair, skin and nails, then addedfolic acid, biotin and a calcium/ vitamin D supplement. Gotta keep those bones strong when you’re drinking nothing but tea all day.

At 9:31, I wasstarving.

I decided to make my “sh* t tea, ” as I’m calling it, despite having already had my morning “evacuation.” It’s full of licorice and other stuff that’s supposed to really clean you out. I don’t know a lot about tea cleanses, but from what I’ve heard from the three people I know who love cleansing, you’re supposed to sh* t your brains out.

La la la la la.

Iwaiteda century for the tea bagto steep to maximize its vitamin goodness, merely reminding myself over and over that I’d gained seven pounds in the last five days. That was enough encouragement to suffer for beauty.

After I drank the tea, I was slightly less starving.

Sure enough, I soon becamepreoccupied with thirst. I felt empty on several levels. I started watching “Outlander, ” andI find my belly twisting into knots, sending me operating to the bathroom between episodes. I don’t know how I perhaps had so much poo inside my body, but there it was, spewing out of me like paste from a tube.

Needless to say, I wasn’t feelingthat greatafter basically pee-pee out of my ass all day.

At 2 pm, I tookan hour-long nap because I was exhaustedfrom not eating. As you’ve probably guessed, I’m also hella dramatic.

Around 6 pm, I wasforcibly dragged to my sisters’ girlfriends house for “dinner” with my family. I wasnot in high spirits because Iwasstarving. I was also feeling mad-sick at this phase. Whileeveryone ateChinese takeoutand Rice Krispie Treats, I was in hell.I set a bunch of ice chips into a martini glass and atethem like sorbet so Icould feel fancy.

I added a cinnamon stick with my tea at one point, too.

I wasn’t sure that I could make it another 24 hours on only tea. I feltso nauseous that I hadto take aspirin to try to combat the throbbing headache brought on by low blood sugar.I hadmy last cup of licorice sh* t tea before bed and fallasleep immediately, desperate to make my misery aim. I’m not even being dramatic. I feltf* cking terrible.

Then, in the dark of the night, everything get much, much worse.I aimed up spending half the night in the bathroom with explosive, lava-like bodily fluidserupting from both ends.

When I finally climbed back into bed, throbbing all over and extremely dehydrated. I knew I couldn’t go through with it. I had to eat and give up this ridiculous pursuit.

I had a horrible migraine the next day due to dehydration. It was not fun.

When all was said and done, I fell three pounds in the 24 hours of what was perhaps the worst experience of my life. In example you haven’t already figured it out, this half-brained tea cleanse was a seriously poor decision on my part.

Wow. With that sort of self talk, Im amazed my body does anything for me.

No wonder I wasnt feeling like my best ego, physical or otherwise.

Ive since learned the biggest health and weight loss secret no one is talking about: listening to your body.

Thats what I wasnt doing.

When my body told me, “Hey, Im depleted, ” I ignored it and pounded away at the gym anyway.

When I wasn’t hungry for food, but truly yearned for love and needed to do something relaxinglike sleep or talk to a nurturing friend, I ordered pizza instead( and eat the entire pie by myself ).

When my body was craving physical activity, I lied on the couch.

Our bodies are constantly sending signals.

The problem is, many of us arent listening to our greatest allies.

Our intellects, picking up on many self-limiting messages and images from the media, thinks it knows best.

The key is to have our intellects and bodies in sync with one another.

Our bodies talk to us, and we need to listen.

All the things you can do to find inner happiness require the body. The intellect isn’t living in a separate house.

I could never fully commit to the best regime of diet, exert, stress reduction and meditation until I got my body fully on board and comfy with it.

That entailed loving, honoring and respecting my body for all it does for me, rather than blaming it for not being superhuman.

I shed unnecessary weight when I stopped obsessing over everything I was putting in my body and rigidly counting calories.

When I stopped labeling myself and food as good or bad and enduring the shameful impressions and emotions that accompany that way of thinking, the weight literally melted off my body.

The next time you want toreach for “bad” food, feel seduced to overeat or have any kind of craving, try to stop focusing on the food.

Listen to what your body is telling you instead.

His daily caloric intake is about 11,000 kcals from food and likely close to 12,000 kcals when his carbohydrate, glutamine and BCAA supplements are factored in. As a result, his dietary fat intake is close to 35% of his total calories and contains a high content of so called heart-healthy polyunsaturated fats from sources such as almonds, oily fish and avocados.

If this caloric uptake is a true reflection of his energy requires then the only changes we would tentatively( were not arguing !) suggest would be to reduce his protein uptake, redistribute it evenly over the working day to have a minimum dose of 70g/ meal and moderately increase his carbohydrate intake to suit his training wants on a day-to-day basis. We insure no need for BCAA or glutamine supplements and he could benefit from ingesting more of his calories in liquid kind from sources such as milk or chocolate milk. Finally, he would be highly likely to benefit from a creatine supplement and maybe the strategic use of caffeine.

The primary problem with developing a nutrition strategy for a strongman challenger of this size is the amount of calories required to perform the training. While few of us will ever need to consume a diet like this, there are aspects of it that can be translated to support the performance of ordinary people. The key point is the regular intake of high quality protein sources spread throughout the day, advice which will certainly assist the performance goals of The Mountain, but may also help the rest of us to achieve a healthy and functional old age.

Gabby Douglas, 20, is a young adult with the discipline of a bodybuilder. After yearsof rigorous gymnastic practice, the kind that defined her up for gold wins at the 2012 Olympics, Douglas knows every single bite of food she takes plays directly into how well she performs.

You also likely know this rule, but in a much more boozy style. Drinking a bottle of merlot at dinner feels great, but makes Saturday morning’s hot yoga class into a suffering sauna that smells like hangover.

But while you’re bemoaning your lack of self-control, Douglas is hitting the gym and eating clean. With fewer than 30 days left before Rio, she’s kicked her diet plan into high gear.

In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, Douglas discloses she sticks to lean protein and greens, but doesn’t deny herself the occasional indulgent( read: tasty) meal, like her grandma’s waffles, for example.

On an average day, the gymnast starts off with oatmeal and a banana( homemade by grandmother) alongside a mug of hot tea. By the time lunch comes around, Douglas has already logged four hours of grueling work on the mat. She downs chicken breast and asparagus, finishing the snack off with dark chocolate-covered almonds.

Two hours later gymnastics-filled, I might add Douglas sits down to grilled salmon, green beans and homemade gingerbread.

So … that’s about a third of the food I eat on an average day and about five times the workout. Great.

Cosmo goes on to note that Douglas has lighter workout days, in which she’s been known to sneak in a taco salad or bacon. And when there’s no work to do, you’ll find the Flying Squirrel sleeping late or watching cooking presents on TV.

Notably, Douglas doesn’t go for fancy, overpriced smoothies or kelp noodles. It’s just wholesome food, eaten in moderation with the occasional treat. She even chows down on pasta once in a while.

The average person could utterly recreate her proteins-and-greens diet on a budget.

Im 5’7” and 145.7 pounds.

To some, its an envious combination. To others, its somewhat overweight.

To me, its something to get used to because six months ago, I would’ve wept be careful to ensure that number on a scale.

I used to live my life in numbers: the weight on my scale, the size of my jeans, the number of almonds I ate( precisely 17 a day, by the way ), the total number of calories I ate, thenumber of calories I burned, the ounces of chicken I eat and the minutes it took me to run five miles.

Ive never been good at math, but I was damn good at maintaining a precise calculation of every single thing that went in my body.

I even measured out my vodka.

That was dedication, people. Or rather, it was an addiction.

It was an unwavering preoccupation rooted in the shallow fear of being fat.

I was wholly imprisoned by my own thoughts and insecurities. The required to skinny devoured my every thoughts and action.

That is, until a few months ago, whenI chose the whole “count every single calorie and run eight miles to burn off the cookie I feed at lunch today” lifestyle was building me exhausted and miserable, instead of secure and happy.

So, I quit being a skinny bitch, and Ive never been happier.

1. Ice cream is delicious.

Bacon cheeseburgers, sweet potato fries, burritos and barbecue chicken pizza( actually, any kind of pizza) are also incredibly delicious.

People whotell you they actually like the savor of kale smoothies are liars.

2. I was sick of the guilt.

Every time I steered away from what I perceived as healthy, I detested myself.

One piece of pizza was equal to at the least one hour of standing in front of the mirror to make sure I didnt look bloated.

The immense guilt I used to feel after feeing one cookie or half a bagel was so overwhelming, I felt like I had just cheated on my significant other.

Id expend my entire day wonderinghow I could counteract the one bad decision.

I would come up with excuses as to why it was okay, and then Id end up calling my mama to confess the act.

If I had a dollar for every time I told someone, I eat an entire pint of Ben& Jerrys last night, I could pay off my student loans.

3. It was way too time-consuming.

Im okay with taking an hour or two out of my day to get in a good running, hike, cycling class or yoga session.

Please don’t suppose I’m not a huge proponent of a healthy lifestyle because I am.

But, it’s the obsession that’s unhealthy.

Iwasted so many hours of my life measuring tablespoons of almond butter and ounces of salmon.

I just wanted to eat a dinner without needing to garbage 10 minutes typing it into MyFitnessPal, just to make sure I hadnt gone over my calories for the day.

Of course, if I did, my iPhone wasted no time telling me I wasnt good enough.

4. Itraded my health for being skinny.

Eating two eggs whites on rye with spinach and then operating 13 miles was how I remained skinny.

Enough said.

5. Nothing savours as good as skinny feels is an abominable motto.

Like most teenage girls and women in their 20 s, my daily routine is totally saturated by #fitspo.

Its abhorrent and degrading because we just can’t accept who we are.

We think, “Im doing everything this diet recommends. Im doing everything my trainer tells me to do. Im following this workout plan to the T. So why dont I look like that? ”

When our results fall short of our expectations, we dont recognise how far weve come.

We don’t pat ourselves on the back and say good task. We dont applaud ourselves for dedicating it our best.

Instead, we scold ourselves.

I should’ve run longer. I should’ve done one more sit up. I should’ve eaten one less banana.

There were days when I wished I could silencemy inner monologue. I think weve all been there.

As a woman, this attains me unbelievably sad. We should never want to quiet our thoughts.

Our supposes should be filled with self-love, respect and admiration.

6. I wanted to learn to love myself.

They say you cant love another person until you love yourself. Its true.

The obsessive insecurities Ive had about the style I look have obstructed my happiness in every single one of my relationships.

I know Im not alone.

Iquit being a skinny bitch so I could, in fact, learn to love myself without reservation and what I perceived to be the perfect body.
