Winter is gross.

Day after day, you’re yanking on your shapeless puffy coat, moisturizing relentlessly( without genuinely get results) and keeping your fingers crossed at all days you don’t slip on ice and fall on your face.

I’m the first to acknowledge I’m not my prettiest in the winter, and I’m going to bet most people feeling the same way.

While I can’t stimulate the cold weather go away( sorry, working on that one ), I can offer up some expert tips from TULA probiotic skincare founder and New York City-based doctorRoshini Rajapaksa on how to look awesome all wintertime long.

Or simply appear awesome for that winter wedding you have coming up. Whatever floats your boat.

Start exfoliating ASAP.

During the dry, freezing cold months of winter, it’s important to pay extra special attention to your skin. This entails taking hydration and exfoliation to the next level.

Rajapaksa tells Elite Daily,

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! Dead scalp cells and debris tend to dull the skin. Give yourself a gentle exfoliating face mask or scrub the day before your big event to disclose a more polished and glowing look.

And keep a hydrating fog spraying in your purse to sporadically freshen your face to maintain your glow.

On top of that, bide hydrated. If the whole “drinking eight glasses of water a day” thing isn’t for you, try herbal tea.

Trust me, I know how seducing it is to spend your winter days curled up on your lounge with Netflix and a bottle of wine.

While a bikini body may not be your focus just yet, workout is key for biding happy when the weather’s getting you down.

Studies present workout busts nervousnes and stress, improves confidence and stimulates you more creative and productive. And those are just the mental benefits.

Rajapaksa explains,

Exercise stimulates the digestive system and the bowels, causing food and drink move through your system faster, get rid of any bloat-causing gas in the process. A vigorous workout that activates the sweat glands also helps release any fluid you might be retaining.

Convinced yet? If not, just think about how happy you’ll be when bikini season does roll around.


Eat the good stuff.

If your outfit of choice in the winter includes a puffy coat and huge sweater, I don’t blame you for loading up on carbs whenever you get the chance.

But as they say, “you are what you eat” — so don’t let your loose, comfy clothes be an excuse to eat an entire sleeve of Oreos when you get home from run every day.

In order to look and feel your best, load up on foods that they are able to maintain you healthy and happy, like dark, leafy, green veggies and avocado( hello, healthy fats !) as well as yogurt and kimchi, which promote gut health and digestion.

And if you have a big winter event coming up, make sure you’re not eating foods that they are able to make you more bloated.

Rajapaksa notes,

Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and other cruciferous vegetables can build you feel bloated thanks to raffinose, a sugar that is hard for the body to break down.

In trying to do so, your body makes gas as a byproduct, which will stimulate you bloat. Slash sodium to reduce water retention. This entails carefully checking labels and, if possible, avoiding canned or processed foods.

Doesn’t sound so bad, right?


Don’t neglect your hair.

Let’s be real: In the winter, you’re not showing much of your body.

Your hair, on the other hand, is still out in the open. So take steps to keep it shiny and healthy throughout the winter.

Believe it or not, what you eat is important for hair health as well.

Rajapaksa tells ED,

Keeping your locks shiny and strong is tough in the winter but you can protect your hair from breakage by limiting your utilize of ponytails or buns.

My favorite beauty foods for healthy and glowing hair are dark, leafy greens and radishes. Rich in silicon and sulfur, they are an exceptional hair-strengthening food that help build healthy hair. Also great are soy beans and lentils, which contain iron and zinc, and eggs, which provide biotin.

Hate to say it, but it’s probably time to get off the couch, exfoliate your scalp and take a trip to the grocery store. You can do it!

1. Get your sleep on. Build up for all those sleepless nights by curling up in your bed and dreaming the night-or day-away. Give your intellect a much needed break.

2. Catch up with friends. Abuse Skype& FaceTime if you are stuck inside the house. Perhaps have group calls with your best friends. Or catch up with old friends. It is a good chance to reconnect because you will actually have enough time to talk about things.

3. Clean your closet. Give away things you no longer need. Mix& match your items. Induce it look pretty.

4. Test your business abilities. Make some extra money and sell some your stuff online, see if you can bargain.

5. Take an online course. Or watch an interesting documentary. If you want to feel productive in a snowstorm, online learning is your best bet.

6. Catch up on your favorite reveals or re-watch old ones. Some proves never get old. This is the best time to re-watch some of your all-time favorite displays or watch a new one. Warn: you are not able to be able to get off the coach until you finish the whole season.

7. Try a new recipe. Feed yourself some ideas from your favorite food channel and hop in the kitchen to try some of them. Play Master Chef with some of your family members even, if you want to make it more fun& challenging.

8. Read a good book. A volume that will inspire you to go out there and kill it after the blizzard is over.

9. Play games. Perfect hour for Pictionary, taboo or even twister if you are having a snowmagedon slumber party.

10. Take a trip-up down memory lane. Look at old pictures of your friends and family. Read your publication or your diary. Read old letters or birthday cards from your friends. You will be surprised at how these interesting thing warm your heart and leave you feeling revitalized.

11. Do home exerts. Seem up videos of a new workout youve been meaning to try. Zumba, madnes, yogaetc. That style you wont feel so bad about stuffing your face with all those groceries you bought.

12. Practice your bar tend abilities. Make your own happy hour at home. Mix your own drinks& pour some more shoots as long as you dont text your ex.

13. Cuddle.With your partner, with your friends, with your pets, or with your blanket.

14. Dance. You cant go wrong with that one. Put your favorite dancing jams and shake those hips.

15. Sing.Time to bring out that Karaoke machine. Sing along with you friends or family and make sure the neighbors dont call the policemen on you.

16. Pamper yourself. Take a hot bubble bath. Try a new facial mask.

17. Shop online. When the advise kickings in, start looking at all those marketings items. They know you will be shopping, and they will come for you and find you.

18. Work on your portfolio or your resume. Update your portfolio. Build your resume more appealing. If you have a blog; work on customizing it or picking a different theme. This is a good chance to sharpen your edges.

19. Have some time for yourself to relax and get out of your own head. Listen to some relaxing music and painting the life you want for yourself. Relinquish all your responsibilities and negativity for a few hours.

20. Bring your inner interior designer out. Redecorate your bedroom or your living room. Make small changes in your personal space to make it a lot more inviting.

21. Take online quizzes and personality exams. We all know thats your guilty pleasure.

22. Watch DIY tutorials and listen to self-help podcasts. They are more helpful than you think.

23. Do something cute for someone. Whether a pic collage, a scrapbook or simply a nicely written message. Show someone you appreciate their warmth in this brutally cold weather.

24. If you really have to get out, have snowball fights.

25. If you cant find anythingelse to do, stalk your bae on social media.

With the holidays upon us, I would be lying if I told I wasnt a little nervous about loneliness.

Last year, I was madly in love during the vacation season.

My ex-girlfriend and I exchanged gifts, nuzzled on the lounge and celebrated the holidays amid our own secluded world.

There were few things we seemed to enjoy more than permitting a cold wintertime day to serve as an excuse for us to do absolutely nothing.

Unfortunately, that relationship came to an end soon after our first wintertime together.

While I kept myself busy during the summer, I knew the holiday season would present a challenge.

Dont get me wrong; I love winter hibernation, but there needs to be a balance as cuffing season can be a one-way ticket to loneliness.

Below are six tips for combating that loneliness during this winter season.

Work out.

In my experiences, Ive “ve noticed that” people tend to get lazy with their workout routine during the winter.

This constructs sense, sincethe pressure to maintain a beach body is eliminated.

However, that lackadaisical approach to ones fitness is a huge mistake.

Considering how easy it is to get lazy in the winter, staying committed to a workout routine helps me not only looking good, but feel good.

If Im feeling particularly lazy on a slow winter day, the consistent goal I set for myself — if nothing else — is to kick ass at the gym that day.

Not to mention, it is far more rewarding to cozy up on a couch after exerting than to simply cozy up all the time.


Get outside.

Oddly enough, strolling my dog has taught me so much about the winter.

My dog is on the older side, and Ive noticed summertime climate can be borderline paralyzing for her.

However, when it comes to winter hour walks the cold has this incredible they are able to invigorate my dog like shes a puppy again.

I used to position the winter like as a nuisance.

I hesitated to walk outside as I bundled up in layers, folded my limbs across my chest and bitterly cursed the cold wind assaulting my face.

However, the trigger of my dog taught me a valuable lesson: Winter is an incredible opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

One activity Ive come to adore is snowboarding.

To be clear, I am an nasty snowboarder.

However, with the right gear( jacket, snow pants, gloves, hat ), wintertime activities can be exhaustively enjoyable.

Ultimately, when it comes to wintertime, I always think of the proverb, there is pleasure in pain.

Its painful to wake up early, put on snow gear and trek on a snowboarding trip.

However, once you find yourself gliding down a pristine mountain, breathing the fresh air as your body pumps extra adrenaline, its easy to become addicted to winter period activity.


Party.

As a single human, it borderline infuriates me when all my single friends want to do on a weekend is play video games.

Even if its cold outside, nightlife still exists.

In my eyes , no single human ever has a good excuse to miss an opportunity to party, socialize and have fun on a weekend night.

Of course, every city is different, and some of you may live in places that become ghost townships during the winter.

However, I live in New York City. No matter how cold it is, you are bound to find beautiful girls occupying bars across the city.

So, get off your ass, get a drink in you and get out there.


Netflix and Chill the right way.

Outdoor adventures are surely worth the effort in the winter, but there will unavoidably be downtime.

When it comes to Netflix, its easy to binge on the same, familiar depicts season after season.

However, Netflix offers a wealth of under appreciated entertainment that ranges from informative and historical to powerful and moving.

Some of my favorite gems on Netflix are the documentaries.

And a particularly useful tool for receiving gems on Netflix is Rotten Tomatoes.

Rotten Tomatoes has a tomatometer which you can use to kind Netflix alternatives based on critical reception.

This meter introduced me to unbelievable documentaries like “Restrepo, ” which chronicled the first-hand experiences of soldiers exchanging gunfire in the Korengal Valley of Afghanistan.

Dont get me wrong; I love binging on familiar sitcoms.

But it never hurts to throw in the occasional Ted Talk or biographical documentary to add a little substance to a slow winter day.


Travel.

In general, it vexes me when people tell me to travel because if traveling were a fiscal prospect, don’t you think that’s exactly what I would be doing?

Many of us are not fortunate enough to travel during the vacation season, but even a weekend getaway can serve as a freshening change of pace amid a slow winter.

So, run visit that old college friend for a weekend in their hometown or devote skiing a shot.

If it’s a prospect, hop on a plane and escape the winter for a bit.


Become more of a “yes” man.

Its so easy to fall into the habit of hibernating during the winter.

In the past, I would get invited to numerous social jaunts, but I would reject all of them purely due to my negative relate with winter.

I didnt want to deal with the cold; I preferred to hibernate.

However, the truth was that hibernation without moderation induced me unhappy.

But in a strange style, being unhappy was far easier than stimulating the effort to be happy.

So, take advantage of the invitations you receive this winter.

Whether its the happy hour after run, the impromptu ski journey or even the opportunity to shovel some snow with your family, merely get out of your house and get moving.

You wont regret it.
